1. Which body(s) host the Internet backbone network in Iran?
A: Internet access is rather monopolized in Iran. The Telecommunication Company of Iran (TCI), together with affiliated administrative governmental bodies, such as the Frequency Regulatory and the IT Infrastructure Company governs the Internet exchange and network access points and manages Internet traffic throughout the country traffic interchange between the ISPs and end users.
 

2. What do TCI, DCI, ITC, TCT and CRA abbreviations stand for?
A: TCI is the Telecommunication Company of Iran,
DCI is the Telecommunication Infrastructure Company,
ITC stands for Information Technology Company of Iran,
TCT is the Tehran Communication Company of Tehran,
CRA represents the coordinating office of frequency regulations.
 

3. Which physical media are commonly in service as data carrying mechanisms?
A: Point-to-point (P2P) dedicated data link as the communications medium with exactly two endpoints is the widely used medium nowadays.
Modems are to be fitted at both ends and the connection between the end user (computer) and the medium is being generally implemented through RS-232 interface.
The link is being established and maintained by DCI.
 

4. What it takes to establish an E1 (P2P) link?
A: Vana LLC carries over all the administrative job, based on an initial written request issued by the interested party.
It takes about four weeks to establish a link.
 

5. What is the capacity of the point to point dedicated medium?
A: Maximum 2 Mbps.
 

6. Is there any chance of having wireless data communication for Internet?

Wireless and P2P physical links, if implemented in parallel, provide the safest communication mechanism and offer the most availability.
However the topography and the location of the party in interest, have to be studied before establishing such a link.
 

7. Does Vana accept the responsibility for the availability of carrying mechanisms?
A:Vana supervises the connectivity and works thoroughly with the related governmental sector in charge to make the link up and running in case of shortages or if any disturbance was reported.
 

8. Is Vana involved in network design and it’s support?
A:No. HYEnet LLC, the sister company of Vana, is engaged in the networks and their status.
 

9. How is Vana Electric LLC related to HYEnet LLC?
A:They are totally different legal entities, however working very closely with each other, as the provision of Internet access and the accessibility of the Internet are fully interconnected.
Vana and HYEnet together can play a significant part in evolving the Internet, both in terms of where the interconnections are placed and made accessible and in terms of how much information can be carried how quickly.
